Kindergarten Transition Teams

We support school districts’ early learning goals in their strategic plans.

Community-based planning teams bring diverse stakeholders together to promote and strengthen school readiness in the community. Members identify current needs and priorities, develop an action plan, review results and use the information to inform future initiatives. These discussions happen through site-based Kindergarten Transition Teams.

School readiness is a complex process involving multiple systems and stakeholders. Young children grow and thrive within the context of their families, neighborhoods and the larger community. When community stakeholders work collaboratively to support children and families, research clearly demonstrates the positive gains necessary for school readiness. ESD staff and school principals engage these key community stakeholders in school-based groups called Kindergarten Transition Teams. Representation on the teams include parents, kindergarten teachers, district staff, early care and learning professionals, early intervention specialists, community library staff, faith based organizations, businesses and other community organizations.
